The Pasadena Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has voted to partner with Hillsides Guild, volunteer organization that supports the programs of Hillsides, a Pasadena-based residential and community treatment center that creates safe places for children at risk and their families.
ASID Pasadena Chapter will help redecorate the Hillsides Girls' Satellite Cottage in Pasadena. The four-bedroom home, built in 1913, offers independent living instruction to six adolescent girls who are preparing to emancipate into the community upon graduation from high school.
"This project is about transforming the dorm-like rooms of this house into a warm, inviting home for the girls at Hillsides Satellite Cottage," says Marty Frias, who co-chairs the ASID committee with Roberta Martin.
"We are really excited about our partnership with ASID," says Dee Fisher, president of Hillsides Guild. "This wonderful old house needs capable, expert hands to make it into a true home."
ASID is hopeful that the project, which is in its early stages, will be completed by the end of fall 2004. The house has been measured and lighting and furniture plans are being drawn up. Pasadena Lighting, an ASID Industry Partner, will donate many of the new light fixtures; and Monterey Ceramic Tile and Marble will contribute tile for the bathrooms.
A non-profit organization, ASID is the design profession's oldest and largest association, with members qualified by education, testing and experience. The ASID Pasadena Chapter, formed in 1964, has a history of community involvement in its quest to be the definitive resource for professional education and knowledge-sharing. Its mission is to define excellence in the practice of interior design; to improve the value of the profession to the public and to work for a favorable environment for members' right to practice interior design.
