LOS ANGELES – May 24, 2023 – Deluxe 1717, a neighborhood restaurant and local fixture in Pasadena, will donate 17% of all proceeds each Thursday in June to Hillsides to celebrate Pride month and honor its support of youth in the community. The campaign kicks off Thursday, June 1, and provides patrons the opportunity to support Hillsides, a Los Angeles based nonprofit focused on children and youth behavioral health services, foster care and adoption, and transition age youth street outreach and homeless services.
The team at Hillsides meets children, youth, and families when they are facing significant turning points in their lives. Staff and therapists utilize LGBTQ+ affirming practices in all programs, whether that be working with young adults in drop-in centers, children in residential mental health treatment programs, or youth within school-based and community-based programs.
“As a long-standing supporter of LGTBQ+ sensitive therapeutic practices, we are humbled and honored that Deluxe 1717 has elected to utilize its platform to support this community during PRIDE month and donate to Hillsides. It’s remarkable to see businesses, partners, and individuals come together to spread awareness and compassion for our young people,” commented Stacey Roth, President and CEO of Hillsides.
Deluxe 1717 is owned and operated by Cordon Bleu-trained chef and restaurateur Onil Chibás, who likes to keep things local, sourcing ingredients from many nearby purveyors including sustainable Pasadena farmers like the Urban Homestead and Hungry Gardens. It’s this same altruistic and community-minded philosophy that aligns the restaurant’s partnership and support for LGBTQ+ youth this month.
“This will be our first Pride month celebration, and we feel so strongly as a business in Pasadena that we cultivate alliances with local organizations. We chose to support Hillsides this month because they are a local, home-grown nonprofit organization, and we’ve had a wonderful partnership with them over the years, especially during the pandemic.”
This month’s donations also reflect a more personal connection for Onil, “To have an opportunity to support young people during the difficult time of figuring out their identity is so essential. As a young gay man, that type of support wasn’t available to me. We want everyone to feel accepted and included in our diverse local culture here at Deluxe 1717, and we are proud to honor the work Hillsides is doing to provide compassion, guidance and acceptance to our young members of the community.”
Deluxe 1717 and Hillsides invite the public to join in the happy hour fun Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for deeply discounted wine and local craft beer and bites, while helping a great local cause. The eclectic and ever-changing seasonal menu includes summertime favorites such as Peruvian chicken, plant-based watermelon “poke“ salad, and strawberry and tomato burrata.
